I have done a lot of reflecting over our 6 weeks in Korea that have led me to many conclusions and even more questions. Our time at Kyunghwa High School has been life changing for me in ways I never thought it would be. I knew I would learn a lot in the classroom through teaching, observing, and completing various assignments. I was not prepared for the impact that the classmates, professors, Kyunghwa staff, and students would have on me personally. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity that ended up being far more remarkable than I could have ever imagined before departing for Korea. This experience has left me forever changed for the better. I have already noticed changes in my teaching, my future goals, my sensitivity towards others and lastly, my outlook on life. These changes from an outside perspective would not seem possible to complete within 6 weeks to this extent, but I can politely disagree. Before participating in this practicum abroad experience I thought I knew exactly what I wanted in life and restricted myself to what that future would look like. After this experience I can confidently say I have no idea where my future will take me and that is a wonderfully scary feeling to have. I now have the confidence in myself to realize my future can be wherever/whatever I want it to consist of (this is due to the incredible people that I was surrounded by, so thank you!!). I look forward to seeing what path I head down after my senior year based off the experiences and knowledge I have gained through this practicum. Self-reflections are ongoing and the small amount of reflections I was able to put into words here are just the beginning to the many take-aways I have due to this unbelievable experience.
Below are pictures taken of the beautiful Kyunghwa campus during our last week in South Korea. I am happy to be back with my family and friends, but miss the phenomenal people I met in South Korea tremendously. I cherish the relationships I built while there and haven't stopped maintaining those relationships since leaving. I am lucky to be able to communicate with the students and teachers daily. Some students have requested we send them American young adult literature. This will be my project for next weekend! I am happy this experience has extended past the 6 weeks we spent there.
I cannot put into words the impact those 6 weeks had on me so hopefully these photographs will help tell the story of my travels to South Korea. Enjoy!
