We have been extremely busy and I have not had time to blog the past two days! On Day 3 I started out my morning with kimbap and coffee in a bag from the convenience store (the cashier at the convenience store already knows us as regulars). After breakfast we had a class gathering to discuss TESOL strategies. After class we went to a local restaurant that served bibimbap (a Korean dish that means mixed rice) and the locals were happy to see us there! The food was delicious and the restaurant owner encouraged us to stay for coffee after the meal. After lunch we all took the subway to The National Museum of Korea. I explored a little and ended up at the Cafe at the museum and was drinking an iced green tea latte with cheese and cherry gelato while looking at the most gorgeous view of the city and the Seoul Tower. That night some of us went to a baseball game in Doosan to watch the home team (Bears) win against the SK Wyverns. To my surprise there was KFC and Burger King on every corner (of course with a Korean twist). The atmosphere at the stadium could be described as similar to European soccer. Needless to say I will be returning soon!
On Day 4 we started out or day discussing more TESOL strategies and getting excited for arriving at the school on Tuesday! After our class we all headed to the Bukchon Hanok Village. The pictures of this village do not do it justice! The village was gorgeous with amazing views of the city skyline and the mountains. The architecture of the houses was beautiful. While exploring the village we stumbled upon a tea museum and had to check it out. With entrance to the museum you could order an tea on the menu. I ordered JuJube-Ginger Tea and it was the best tea I have ever tasted. To our surprise the deck of the tea museum had the prettiest view of the city I had seen so far. It's amazing what things you can find by accident. After exploring the village we walked to Insadong which is an outdoor district with lots of shopping, music performances, and art. We had a lot of fun walking around and exploring! We stopped at a place for lunch and had an amazing meal (I can't get enough of the food and tea here)! After we shopped for awhile we stopped at a rooftop coffee shop and spent some time taking in the views and enjoying each other's company. We then decided to go to Dongdaemun to check out the night life with the younger crowd of South Korea. It was a blast with lots of shopping, clubs, and food vendors (they even have Taco Bell). My past few days in Korea have been amazing and I am extremely blessed to have been able to experience this journey with the wonderful people around me.
